Butler Carl J. Butler, longtime Fairfax resident, passed away Monday morning, October 21, 2002 at the Heritage Villa Nursing Center, Bartlesville. He was 99 years of age. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2002 at the First Christian Church of Fairfax with Rev. George Weston, presiding. Interment will be at the Fairfax Cemetery under the direction of the Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home. Carl J. Butler was born on July 17, 1903 at Tomahawk, Arkansas, the 2nd of 9 children born to Jesse M. Butler and Emily (Baker) Butler. He received his early education in the Prue and Rigsby area schools. He was united in marriage to Marie Black on December 18, 1925 at Sapulpa. The couple had been married for 67 years prior to Mrs. Butler's death on February 3, 1993. Mr. Butler was employed with Sinclair Oil and Gas Company for 42 years. After his retirement he continued with contract pumping for 19 years in the Fairfax area until the age of 84. He had spent the last five years in the Fairfax area until the age of 84. He had spent the last five in a half years at Heritage Villa Nursing Center of Bartlesville. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Fairfax and was a Master Mason with the Grayhorse Lodge for over 60 years. He had served as a school board member of the Grayhorse School. Mr. and Mrs. Butler had baby sat for several years for many children of the Fairfax community. Mr. Butler always enjoyed visiting with others and was always willig to talk about his children and other children he helped care for. He is survived by five children, Carl L. Butler and wife, Louise, Oklahoma City, Virginia Barnes and husband, E. Gene, Dewey, C. Dennis, Bartlesville, G. Mack Butler and wife, Trice, Stillwater; 11 grandchildren, 10 great- grandchildren and give great-great grandchildren, three sisters, Opal Bickham, Chelsea, Drucilla O'Brien, Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, and Mrs. M. H. (Boots) Benson, Spring, Tx. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers and two sisters. Casketbearers will be grandsons, Paul Butler Carl Barnes, Neal Barnes, Brad Butler and Allen Befort. Honorary casketbearers will be granddaughters Karol Veal, Nina Ropp, Belinda Butler, Amy Hanson, Ann McNellis and Ragan Butler. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, Elevator Fund, 154 North 4th, Fairfax, OK 74637.
