Clifford James Butler

Clifford James "Perk" Butler passed away on July 16, 2002 in Dallas, Tx. 
at the age of 84.  The family will remember him as a great husband, 
wonderful father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  Others knew him as 
a first class friend and sports fan.

Perk was born in Wynona on Oct. 11, 1917.  He attended high school there 
and marveled Wynonans with his athletic skills.  During World War II he 
served in the Naval Air Corps.  He worked in the Oil Industry in Hominy 
and Stillwater.  Later he worked for the Air Force at Tinder air Force 
Bases.

Throughout his life Perk coached little league baseball and referreed 
football, basketball, wrestling and baseball.  For twenty-seven years he 
was on the team operating the OSU football scoreboard.  He was active in 
church work his entire life and served on several church boards.  Perk 
took active roles in Kiwanis and Lions Club in Stillwater and Perkins.

Perk Butler is survived by his wife of 64 years, Velma Thellen Gore 
Butler, daughter Carol Sue Lightner of Dallas, Tx., and son Tom Butler of 
Ft. Collins, Co.  He found great joy in four grandchildren and three great 
grandchildren.

Perk had a notorious sense of humor, an outgoing personality, never met a 
stranger and brought laughter and wonderful memories to many lives.  He 
will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.  The family believes death 
is the end of life but never a relationship.  In lieu of flowers please 
send gifts or contributions to Lost Creek United Methodist Church.

Services were held at Lost Creek United Methodist Church and Pastor Max 
Rudd officiated.  Interment was at A. J. Powell Cemetery.  Strode Funeral 
Home was in charge of the arrangements.
