She was the daughter of Lorenzo Dow and Ada Mae Kelso. Wanda was raised in Cleveland and attended school here, graduating from Cleveland High School in 1939. Shortly after graduation, Wanda moved to Kansas where she met and married Chester D. Cathey, on November 3, 1939. Wanda's love for dancing led her to teach dance in Lyons, Kansas for many years. She taught ball room dancing. Wanda worked for many years in retail sales. She worked for numerous companies, but spent a lot of time in furniture sales. She also was a manager of an apartment complex for a few years in Enid. Wanda and Chester had two children, Delora and Tom, and raised them in Lyons. After their children had left home, the couple moved a lot for the next few years, residing in Chase, Medicine Lodge and Newton in Kansas, Springfield, Missouri and Enid, Oklahoma. The couple moved to Grove, Oklahoma in 1995 and resided there until March 1999 when they moved to Tulsa Oklahoma. They enjoyed traveling in their motor home and spent many hours on the road in Arizona, New Mexico and south Texas. Wanda was a member of the Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Wanda enjoyed country music, especially listening to Bob Wills music. Wanda's favorite pasttime was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wanda passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2001 at Saint Francis hospital in Tulsa at the age of seventy-nine years, eight months and thirteen days. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Vesta Bennett; and seven brothers, Emmitt, Sherman, Mullins, Raymond, Freeman, Millard and Virgil Kelso. Wanda is survived by her husband, Chester D. Cathey of the home; daughter and her husband, Delora and Roy McKinnis of Tulsa, Oklahoma; son and his wife, Thomas and Mary Ann Cathey of Salton City, California; two grandchildren, Debbie Lapham of Grand Prairie, Texas; and Mark McKinnis of Mesquite, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Lapham of Grand Prairie, Texas, Casey Marie Lapham of Grand Prairie, Texas, Joseph McKinnis of Mesquite, Texas and Louren McKinnis of Mesquite, Texas. Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm Tues., Jan. 16, 2001 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Dakota Rush officiating.
