Walter Clay Passes In Veterans Hospital

Walter Clay, age 55 years, passed away Saturday morning, December 4, 
in the Veterans Hospital at Wichita, where he had been taken the day 
before suffering from a heart attack.

Funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at the Assembly of God 
church, with sermon by Rev. Charles Parks of Webb City, assisted by 
Rev. F. E. Conrad. Interment was in Fairfax Cemetery under direction 
of the Hunsaker funeral home.

Mr. Clay was a veteran of World War One.  Military rites were 
accorded by color bearers and firing squad of the local service 
organizations in uniform with Rev. M. C. Holt as military chaplain.

Walter Clay was born February 7, 1893, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of 
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Clay.  The family moved to Fairfax tirty years ago 
and this has since been their home.

On February 9, 1919, he was married to Miss Jessie Chambers at 
Bartlesville, Okla.  To this union one son was born, Walter Clay Jr., 
who survives. 

Mr. Clay was employed in the oil fields and recently operated a milk 
route for the Steffens plant in Fairfax, at which he was employed to 
time of his death.

Immediate family survivors besides his wife and their son include 
five brothers:  Earl Clay of Tulsa, Ollie Clay of Ralston, Jim Clay 
of Clinton, Mo., Jo Clay of Ogden, Utah, Ben Clay of Winchester, Ky, 
two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Hampton of Fairfax, Mrs. Goldie Youngblood of 
Beeville, Texas; his aged father, J. T. Clay of Fairfax; one 
grandchild; numerous nephews and neices.
