Powell Memorial Cemetery--Hominy OK The Hominy News - Progress Vol. 33, No. 39 Wednesday, September 26, 2001 Page 5 Ruby Corbell Funeral Services for Ruby Ethel Cordell were held Mon., Sept. 24 at First Baptist Church of Hominy with Pastor Mark Wright officiating. Mrs. Cordell, 91, of Hominy, died Sept. 20, 2001 in Tulsa. Interment was in A. J. Powell Cemetery under the direction of Powell Funeral Home. She was born August 27, 1910 in Spring Creek, Missouri to George W. and Virginia (Callahan) Surritte. She moved to Oklahoma in 1920. In March of 1930, she married Albert Corbell. They made their home in the Hominy area where Mr. Corbell farmed. Ruby babysat for various families though the years, she cared a great deal about the children she cared for asking about their whereabouts and well being up until the day she passed away. Her hobbies were crafts and sewing. She loved to fish, loved gardening and flowers. Her cakes and cookies were known to be the best around. She baked thousands in her lifetime, they were known not only as good but also very beautiful, extraordinary to say the least. She was faithful member at the First Baptist Church and kept the nursery there for many years. She wouldn't let anything stand in her way of attending church, not even out of town company would keep her from church. She was an amazing woman, still active in many ways, gardening with Cletis even in her golden years when most people her age were not able to do for themselves, she was still going strong. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Betty and Ernest Shadley of Hominy; son and daughter-in-law, Cletis Glenn and Barbara Ann Corbell of Tulsa, daughter Verva Mae Frommie of Tulsa, Leroy and Nancy Skinner of Sierra Vista, AZ; 1 sister: Alyne Coleman of Carlsbad, NM; 7 grandchildren: Ed and wife Norita Harmon of Tulsa, Colleen and husband Lloyd Patterson of Ponca City, Carrie and husband Mike Kaup of Tonkawa, Carla and husband Chuck Hunt of Collinsville and John Corbell of Tulsa; 16 great- grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1960, 5 brothers and 3 sisters. Casket bearers for the service were Dan Endess, Jr., Jason Endress, Todd White, Matt Tilley, Rick Dummer, Ron Dummer, Eric Daniels and Mike Rains.
