The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ MONDAY SERVICES FOR BILL MATHES OCNS-November 27, 1999 - Billy Lindy Mathes, 72, passed away unexpectedly November 24, in the Pawhuska Hospital. He was born June 20, 1927 in Pawhuska, the son of Thomas S. Mathes, Sr. and Elpha (Ridge) Mathes and was married August 16, 1952 to Deloris "Dee" Boulanger, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Bill enlisted in The U.S. Army during World War II at the age of seventeen, serving in the Philippines. He had just landed in Japan when the War ended. While in occupied Japan he reenlisted and served three different times, serving in the Korean Conflict with the Forty Fifth Division and had six honorable discharges before his twenty-fifth birthday. He retired from The Oklahoma National Guard on August 8, 1987 with over twenty years of military service. He was the first man on the Board Committee while living in Indian Camp, Pawhuska and helped set up the fist laws for The Indian Camp Residents, which are followed today. Bill became a Pawhuska fireman in 1952, retiring after twenty-one years. He was a charter member of The American Legion Post 198 and received his fifty year pin in October, 1999. He loved his Country and took great pride in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors in addition to his wife, Dee and an adopted grandson, Joshua Mathes of the home in Pawhuska are: three children and their spouses; Bill Jr. and Branda Mathes of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Johnny and Sandy Mathes Ray of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and David and Kellie Mathes Hooper of Midwest City, Oklahoma. Also, a sister and brother-in-law, Ralph and Katherine Adkisson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a special cousin, Thelma Tucker of Pawhuska; eleven grandchildren, Delonda Mathes of North Carolina; John and Amanda Ray and Summer and Tommy (Mathes) Merrick of Broken Arrow; Brandy Lee Mathes of Tennessee; Jennifer Mathes Hain, Randy Mathes II, and Dana Mathes of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Billy Mathes III of Stillwater, Oklahoma; John Lindy Hooper and Karie Jo Hooper of Midwest City, Oklahoma; eight great grandchildren: Tyler Merrick, Colby Mathes, Bre'Anna Merrick, Cayla Ray, Ryan Mathes, Katherlynn Ray, Kaylee Mathes and Kaitlynn Mathes. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas S. Sr and Elpha Mathes; a son, Randy Louis Mathes; three sisters, Rose Baird, Jerry Grof and Doris Mathes; two brothers, Marion Donovan and Thomas S. Mathes, Jr. He will lie in state at his residence at 2113 Bobo, Pawhuska, where Rosary Services will be held Sunday, November 28, at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated Monday, November 29, 1999 at 10:00 a.m., in The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pawhuska with Father Leonard Higgins officiating. Burial will follow in the Pawhuska Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Directors, Pawhuska, Oklahoma.
