All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Her obituary appeared on the front page of The Shidler Review, the local newspaper for Shidler, Osage County, Oklahoma, Thursday, February 14, 1935 and read as follows: "Mrs. Ivy Brooks of Carter Nine Dies Suddenly--Funeral Services Held at Baptist Church Here Sunday Afternoon Mrs. Ivy Brooks, 39, beloved wife of W.M. Brooks, of Carter Nine community, passed away at the Ponca City hospital last Thursday night, from complications following an attack of acute indigestion. She was prior to her passing, believed to be recovering nicely, but complications of a serious nature devloped which resulted in death. Iva Dickson, daughter of J.E. and Malinda Dickson, was born November 2, 1896, near Sherman, Texas. She was married to W.M. Brooks, June 30, 1913, and to this union four children were born. Some 20 years past she united with the Baptist church at Cleveland, and on moving to Shidler with her husband and children some ten years past, transferred her membership from Cleveland to the First Baptist in Shidler, being an active and devout member until called home by the Master. Deceased is survived by her husband, two sons, Jarel and Billie, two daughters, Winnie and Velma, her father, J.E. Dickson, and step-mother also five brothers and three sisters, father, step-mother, a brother, E.W., and a sister Miss Joe Edd, living at Watonga; Jack and Tom Dickson, of Longview, Texas; R.H. Dickson, of Crane, Texas; L.N. Dickson, of Cromwell, Oklahoma; and two sisters, Mrs. Zula Staley and Mrs. Hazel Bateman, both of Oilton. The five brothers and their families and the two married sisters and children and Miss Dickson were present for the last sad rites. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the First Baptist church in Shidler by the pastor, Rev. C.L. Truett, assisted by Rev. Henson, before a large concourse of friends and neighbors, and members of the family, beautiful floral tributes banking her casket as tokens of the respect and love in which she was held by those who knew her. Following the services the body was taken to Grand View cemetery for interment, services at the grave being in charge of the Shidler Funeral Home. The bereaved husband and children have the sincere sympathy of the community in the loss of their beloved wife and mother."
