Born May 18, 1939 in Durant, Oklahoma, the daughter of Guy T. and Betty Ruth (Cardin) Choate, Betty graduated from Durant High School. She and L. C. Smith were married on October 7, 1957 In Durant and moved lo Pawhuska shortly after their marriage. The Smiths owned and operated a Montgomery-Ward Retail Store in Pawhuska for a number of years and have owned and operated Smiths Total Service Station for many years. Betty was retired from the Pawhuska School System and was active In The Pawhuska Hospital Auxiliary. Her favorite hobbies were baking bread and going to garage sales with Jo Thornton. Memorial may be sent to The Pawhuska Hospital Auxiliary and The American Society Relay For Life in Pawhuska. Surviving are; Husband: L.. C. Smith of the home, two sons, Bill Smith of Pawhuska and Mike Smith of Fairfax, Oklahoma; A daughter, and son-in-law, Lee Ann and Mike Embry of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Tommy Dan and Helen Choate of Ardmore, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Tyler Guy Smith and Lee Charles Smith; two granddaughters, Jessica Smith and Blair Kathryn Embry and numerous other relatives and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Charles T. Choate. Graveside services were held Friday, July 7, at 2:00 p.m., in the Pawhuska Cemetery with The Reverend Ronald Eldridge officiating under the direction of Johnson Funeral Directors.
