She was 62. The funeral service will be held at 10,00 a.m., Tuesday May 9, 2000 at Grace Memorial Chapel in Ponca City, Oklahoma with the Reverend. Carl Neal, Pastor, Grace Baptist Church of Shidler officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. Carolyn was born April 3, 1938 in Memphis, TN. She grew up in Memphis and received her education there. On May 10, 1975 she was married to Sonny Carl in Ponca City. The couple made their home in Perry and Newkirk before moving to Shidler. Mrs. Carl worked as a nurses aide at the hospital in Perry for several years. She later worked at the hospital in Ponca City and then at the Fairfax Hospital until retiring due to failing health. She stayed active around her home following her retirement. Her enjoyments included crocheting, and she had made many Afghans and other items for her family. Surviving are her husband, Sonny, of the Shidler home; her mother, Dorothy Hart, of Perry, OK her children, Janet Criswell, Dean Ferguson, and Chris Ferguson, all of Perry, Wayne VanHoesen, of Austin, TX, Ed VanHoesen, of Perry, Pamela Kay Carl, of Covington, OK Tony Michael Carl, of Big Spring, TX, Jerry Carl, of Shidler, Tammy and Ruby Ann, both of Enid, OK Michael Carl, of California and Carol Jean Carl, of Shidler; and numerous grandchildren. Friends may call at the funeral home from 8:00 a.m., Tuesday until time of service.
