CHAMBERS OCNS - June 12, 2002 - Donald L. Chambers, 75, longtime resident of Shidler, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at the Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, Oklahoma. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., in Grandview Cemetery, Kaw City, Oklahoma, with the Reverend Ruth Tipps, pastor of Shidler United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be with military honors under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. viewing will be at Grace Memorial Chapel in Ponca City, prior to Friday's services. Honorary casket bearers will be Vern Robinson, Moose Robertson, Dale Battles, Curtis Orcutt and Jerry Smith. Donald L. Chambers was born August 15, 1926, in Arkansas City, Kansas, the son of Albert Chester and Gladys Tipton Chambers. He attended schools in Dexter, Kansas and prior to graduating, entered the U.S. Navy on August 19, 1943, serving during World War II. Following his honorable discharge August 3, 1947, he returned to Dexter and completed his education. He then attended Tulsa Barber College and was a barber in Shidler for many years. Donald was married to Annabelle Fletcher Box and later married Martha Gray who preceded him in death in September, 1992. He was a member of the Shidler United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing and hunting. Survivors include: three sons, John L. Box and his wife, Sandy of Shidler, Larry S. Box and his wife, Arnetta, of Lebanon, Ohio, and Michael R. Box and his wife, Vivian of Ponca City, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Teri Leigh Turk and her husband, James of Ponca City, Danny Box of Tulsa, Larry Glen Box of Lebanon, Ohio, Andy L. Box of Lebanon, David Box of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Michelle Miller and her husband, J.L. of Pawhuska; and three great grandchildren, Colter Waylon Orcutt and Caulinn Wade Orcutt, both of Shidler and Jamison Heatley of Pawhuska, Oklahoma. In addition to his wife, Martha, Donald was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Earl Chambers and Lyle Chambers, and a sister, Allene Grimes. The family will be at the home of James and Teri Turk, 213 Lansbrook, Ponca City.
