Powell Memorial Cemetery (Photo) Ida Maxine Roberts, longtime Hominy area resident, passed away Monday, July 10, 2002 at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home at the age of eighty-five years, ten months and twenty-three days. Maxine was born July 17, 1916 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Rodman and Eva Clemishire. Maxine was raised in the Hominy area and attended school there. She was married to John Rollan "Burhead" Roberts at the First Methodist Church in Cleveland, Oklahoma on August 4, 1937. The couple made their initial home in the Tulsa area as John worked for Rainbow Bread and McDonald Douglas. They had two children, John Rollan Roberts, Jr. and Shirley Jean. The couple moved to Hominy in 1945 when John began working for Clemishire Drilling. Maxine loved spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed shopping with her daughter and granddaughter. One of her favorite activities was going to the lake with her husband, John. She was a devoted wife and took care of her husband after his accident which left him paralyzed until his care required more extensive assistance. John preceded her in death on June 2, 1998. Maxine was a member of the First Methodist Church in Hominy. She resided in the Cleveland Baptist Retirement Village for a time after her husband's death. For health reasons she later resided with her daughter and son-in- law and then at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home. In addition to her husband, Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, and both children, John Rolland Roberts, Jr. and Shirley Jean Byers. Maxine is survived by her son-in-law, Jim Byers, Cleveland, Oklahoma; a granddaughter and her husband, Rolinda and Harm Dunlap, Allen, Texas; a great granddaughter, Brianne Nicole Dunlap, Allen, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews, Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 14, 2002 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Rev. George Boston and Toby Clemishire officiating. Burial will be at the A. J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
