He entered into rest on March 17, 2001. Ed retired in 1983 from Rafter D Corporation owned by the John Dunkin family. Ed also worked as an independent rancher. Ed enjoyed quail hunting and fishing in his free time. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Hominy, and was baptized in December of 2000. Ed is survived by his wife of the home Viola May Lay, one son John Louis and wife Dyanna Lay, one granddaughter Cynnamon Krystine Lay Smith and her husband Jeff Wayne Smith and great-granddaughter Morgan Krystine Withers/ Smith, one grandson John Scott Lay and his wife Gillian Francis Lay and four great-grandsons James Gerstberger, Daniel Gerstberger, Thomas Gerstberger and John Tyler Lay. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Olive White Lay, two sisters Myrtle Lay Buck and Nora Lay Wilcox, one brother Garland Lay, his parents Anna Patterson and John Wesley Lay. Graveside services for Mr. Lay were held Tues., March 20 at 2 p.m. at A. J. Powell Memorial Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Daniel C. Schaudt, Powell Funeral Home in Hominy.
