OCNS - February 1, 2000 - Fred Taylor, Sr., 80, was born April 23, 1919 in Checotah, McIntosh County, Oklahoma to Grand and Annie (Boston) Taylor) and departed this life January 27, 2000. Fred was educated in The Oklahoma School System of Rentieville, Oklahoma and joined the U.S. Armed Services in 1942. He served as a member of Veterans Legion of Foreign Wars Post 198 in The Southwest Pacific and received several medals of honor and an Honorable Discharge in January, 1946. He was united in marriage to Erma Dean May 11, 1946 in Checotah, Oklahoma and to this union eight children were born. In 1948 the couple resided in Oklahoma City, late moving to Pawhuska. Fred was employed by Schlumberger Oilfield Services 1948-1956. He worked for the United Postal Services from 1957 until his retirement in 1989. Fred confessed his life to Christ as a young man and served as a member of Mt. Zion and First Baptist Churches of Pawhuska. He was a faithful deacon for forty two years. Fred leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of fifty-three years, Erma of the home in Pawhuska; his children, Armisteen and her husband T.C. Davis, Etoyce and her husband, Patrick Johnson and Jerri Kay and her husband C.J. Harris all of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Gayle and her husband William Graham of Oklahoma City; a son, Terry Ray Taylor of Pawhuska, a son-in-law, J. Mitchell of Kansas City, Missouri; twenty-three grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents Fred was preceded in death by three children, Doris Mitchell, Fred Taylor, Jr. and Dale Taylor. The family of Fred Taylor wishes to express their sincere gratitude to everyone for their prayers as well as to those who sent flowers, cards and other expressions of kindness with a special thank you to Maurice Roberts, LaDonna Johnson and Oobie Stover. May God continue to bless each of you in a special way. Services will be Saturday, February 5, 2000 at 1:00 p.m., in The First Baptist Church, 302 East Sixth Street, Pawhuska, Oklahoma with burial to follow in The Pawhuska Cemetery. Reverend Leon Davis will officiate under the direction of Johnson Funeral Directors with the American Legion and the VFW presenting Military Graveside Services.
