HESKETT OCNS - September 15, 2002 - Former Police Chief of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Frank S. Heskett, 97, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2002 in the Jane Phillips Medical Center, Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Mr. Heskett was born April 6, 1905 in Hansford County, Texas, the seventh of eleven children of John David and Ollie Belle (Snowden) Heskett. In his early life, Frank became interested in making motion pictures and worked with Francis Ford and John Ford with the Fox Film Company, where he made numerous pictures and serials. In 1923, he came to Pawhuska to help make "Reign of Terror" and "Stranger From the Hills". He later worked with Harvey O. Brown, Deputy U.S. Marshal under the jurisdiction of Alva J. McDonald. In 1926, Frank was working a large Indian Convention at Williams Park in Pawhuska, and it was there that he met Miss Susie Woodall. The couple wed on December 12, 1927. She preceded him in death March 4, 1965. Frank worked for the Bartlesville Police Department for ten years as a motorcycle police man, then returned to Pawhuska. During World War II he was called to duty, serving as a Military Policeman, training at Fort Riley, Kansas. Upon returning home, he joined the Pawhuska Police Department, from which he retired in 1962, ending a twenty-two year career in law enforcement. Frank married Esther Cummings of Pawnee, Oklahoma and the couple managed a small cow/calf operation south of Pawhuska until ill health forced them to retire. Survivors include: His wife, Esther of Barnsdall, Oklahoma; a sister, LuElla Hennis of Stillwater, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends. In addition to his first wife, Susie, Frank was preceded in death by nine other siblings. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m., Monday, September 16, in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, Pawhuska, Oklahoma with Don Stephens officiating. Interment will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home, Pawhuska, is in charge of arrangements.
