Gurganus Harvey H. Gurganus was born September 14, 1941 in Walker County, Alabama to Jasper O. and Augie (Meadows) Gurganus. He was raised and educated in Alabama. He entered into rest at his home surrounded by his family on August 20, 2001. He was 59 years old. He enlisted in the Army in 1960 and honorably discharged in 1965 serving two tours of duty in Korea. Following his return from the service he settled down in eastern Oklahoma working in construction as a heavy equipment operator. In 1986 he moved to Hominy and began ranching. Harvey was a craftsman and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, his land, good friends, the wonders of nature, taking care of his horses and cattle. He was married to Sharlett Spurgeon on December 18, 1991. Harvey is survived by his wife Sharlett of the home; one daughter JoAnn and husband Rick Penrose of Broken Arrow; one son, Harvey W. Schrimsher of Wynona; one step-daughter Rita Kaye and husband Harry Mitchell; and two step-sons Chuck and wife Tami Spurgeon and Lindy Spurgeon all of Hominy, also the sunshine of his life, four grandchildren Danielle, Andy, Jessica, Shad, and step-grandchildren Sheena, Mallory, Jared, Stephen, Kylie, and Trent; one brother Lloyd "Buddy" Gurganus of Panama City, Florida, two sisters, Leona Bowen of Bonham, Texas and Clara Herrell of Tom Bean, Texas, numerous nieces and nephews, along with a host of friends. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Tennie V. Boner. Services were held august 23, 2001 at the Calvary Worship Center with Reverend Toby Clemishire officiating. Serving as Casket Escorts were Dwight Marks, Joe Dameron, Rick Penrose, Lindy Spurgeon, Chuck Spurgeon, and Josh Johnson.
