All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== The Hominy News-Progress Vol. 39, No. 2 Wednesday, January 8, 2003 Page 5 Ron Harmon Ronald Gary Harmon was born on August 1, 1941 in Cushing, OK to Adrian and Lela (Wardwell) Harmon. He passed away on December 19, 2002 in Oklahoma City, OK, at the age of 61. Ron graduated from Cushing High School in 1959; he received his Bachelor's Degree from Central State University, and his Masters Degree from Oklahoma State University. While playing football for Cushing High School he made all state in 1958. He played football at Oklahoma State University and went to a national playoff while at Central State University. His first coaching job was at Dewey High School. He worked for the Hominy School system for a total of 18 years, during his coaching days he won state in 1972 for Hominy and was runner up twice. During seven of his years in Hominy he had a winning season in districts. He was a member of the Oklahoma Coach's Association, and a Member of the Hall of Fame. In 1983 he was head football coach for the State Champion Hominy Bucks. Ron was a respected mentor to many people throughout his lifetime. He has a way of motivating children and adults alike. He was a loving son, father and grandfather. He had a gruff exterior but had a loving heart. He touched many children's lives through his coaching and encouragement. Ron has worked throughout the state as a Coach, Teacher and Principal. He was a proud father and spent lots of time working with his own children. Only one week before his passing he got to see his son, Scott lead his Pawnee Black Bears to a Class 2A State Championship game. Ron is survived by his mother Lela Harmon of Cushing, four children, Nancy Edwards and Stacey Harmon both of Oklahoma City, Scott Harmon and his wife Shelby Lynn of Cleveland, and Janet Lynn Harmon of Jenks, two grandchildren, Amanda Joy Edwards and Zachary Craig Harmon. Ron was preceded in death by his father Adrian Harmon. Services for Ron Harmon were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday December 23, 2002 at Hominy High School. Reverend David W. DeVore was hand picked by Ron to perform services. Honorary Casket Bearers were Danny Daniels, Bill Scott, Bill Watt, Emile Bayouth, Nolly Adkison, Larry Paul Williams, and L. D. Bains. Casket Bearers were Rick Dill, Tex Bayouth, Russell Hull, Jerry Holderread, Mickey Ripley, and Jeff Streun.
