All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Tucson Citizen, Tucson AZ Clayburn Manus Hitchcock, Jr. Coach Hitchcock died this last Easter morning March 27, 2005 of complications from Alzheimer's. He slipped peacefully away while holding his beloved wife's hand. His little dog, Bear, was curled up by his feet. He was 76. Born in Hominy, Oklahoma, he arrived in Tucson while just a few months old. He fondly remembers the installation of the first stoplight at Congress and Stone. He graduated from Tucson High School and later from the University of Arizona with a Masters Degree in Biology and a Minor in P.E. he was a high school teacher at Pueblo High for 32 years and taught biology and coached varsity track. He received the Arizona Teacher of the Year award in 1969 and was written up several times in the newspaper for his "carrot and stick" approach to Biology. He was also inducted into the Pima County Hall of Fame in 1998 after coaching seven All- Americans. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service for 27 summers. However, he considered his eight children his greatest blessing. Coach Hitchcock was an active High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was firm in the faith to the day he died. His funeral will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel on 2002 N.
