FUNK OCNS - April 16, 2002 - Graveside services were held Monday, April 15, at the Fairfax Cemetery for George N. Funk, 81, longtime resident of Fairfax, Oklahoma, who passed away Thursday, April 11, 2002, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa. Reverend George Weston officiated under the direction of Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home. Mr. Funk was born August 28, 1920 at Hillsboro, Kansas, the son of Peter D. Funk and Bertha (Nichols) Funk. He was a 1938 graduate of Hillsboro High School, later attending Wichita State University, Oklahoma A&M College (now Oklahoma State University) and Indiana State University. March 6, 1942, in Tulsa, he married Maymie Lou Harrell and the couple recently celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary. Mr. Funk served twenty years with the United States Army (C.I.C.) retiring in 1962. He then worked as a claims adjuster for All State Insurance Company in Terre Haute, Indiana, until 1971 at which time the couple moved to Fairfax and he was a case worker with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services until 1982. Mr. And Mrs. Funk owned and operated the Harrell's Grocery and Land Laundry on North Main Street in Fairfax. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Shrine Lodge, the Moose Lodge and the C.I.C. Agents Association. His enjoyments included reading, working crossword puzzles and, in earlier years, playing golf. In addition to his wife, Maymie, of the home, he is survived by one son, Gary Funk of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Vicki Jane Funk Koble and husband, David of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
