Visitation: December 23, 2001 Service: December 27, 2001 Cemetery: A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery Herbert Leon Humphrey, lifelong Hominy resident, was born February 1, 1952 in Hominy, Oklahoma. He was the son of Arthur Lee and Maggie L. Humphrey. Herbert was raised and attended school in Hominy, graduating from Hominy High School in 1972. While attending high school, Herbert was active in all Hominy Buck sports, including football, basketball and track. Upon graduation from high school, Herbert attended automotive mechanic training at Tulsa VoTech for a couple of years. Upon completion of his training, he accepted employment with Wheatley Steel in Sand Springs for a while and then with the Dow Company in Hominy. Later he worked for the water department for the City of Hominy for a few years. Herbert also operated his own radiator repair shop, Humphrey and Son, in Owasso for a while. Herbert was medically retired in 1985 due to health reasons. Herbert enjoyed the outdoors, he especially loved hunting and fishing. He was an avid Hominy Buck fan including all sports and was extremely proud of his alma mater. Additionally, he was an excellent cook, being known for his exceptional Bar-B-Que., Herbert was a longtime member of the Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Hominy, He passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2001 at the Cancer Treatment Center of Tulsa at the age of forty-nine years, ten months and twenty-one days. He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers, Freddie Sparks, Jr. and Darnell Sparks; and a sister, Olivia Frances Shacklefoot. Herbert is survived by his mother, Maggie L. Humphrey, Hominy, Oklahoma: one daughter, Heather Lynn Humphrey, Foyil, Oklahoma; eight sisters, Elvinera Miles, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Florene Robertson, Hominy, Oklahoma; Margaret L. Hunt, Tulsa, Oklahoma: Norma Ruth Patterson, Hominy, Oklahoma; Fredricka Sparks, Hominy, Oklahoma; Juanita Delores Gilkey, Riverside, California; Leona A. Sparks, Hominy, Oklahoma; ; Claudine Humphrey, Hominy, Oklahoma; Anitta Louise Humphrey, Hominy, Oklahoma; four brothers, Oscar Lee Humphrey, Duncan, Oklahoma; Louis James Sparks, Hominy, Oklahoma; Bobby Don Humphrey, Enid, Oklahoma; Antwine A. Humphrey, Holdenville, Oklahoma; Glen Humphrey, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Numerous Nieces and Nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 27, 2001 at the First Baptist Church in Hominy. Interment will be at the A. J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy, Oklahoma under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland.
