Helen was born May 23, 1924 in Hominy to Harvey Ray and Ova Mary (Smith) Thompson. Helen was raised and received her education in Hominy. Later Helen moved to Cleveland and started to work at the ice cream palor on Main Street. That is where she met the love of her life Oren John Henry Adams. Helen and Oren had three dates and on the third date she and Oren went to Ottawa, KS on July 26, 1941 and was united in marriage. To this union there are three children Rita, Donna and Oren Lee. Helen and Oren returned to Hominy where they have for the past 60 years resided. Helen was employed at J. C. Pennys until they closed due to a fire. She later gained employment with the Hominy School District in the cafeteria. Helen worked there for over 20 years and was the cafeteria manager when she retired. Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hominy. Her hobbies included making dolls and cooking. Helen was one of the best cooks in town and was always there to help anybody that needed anything. Preceding her in death are her parents, two sisters, Lottie Mae and Rosie Margaret and three brothers, John Burl, Willie and Willard. She is survived by her husband, Oren Adams, of the home; children, Rita and husband Jim Runyon of Tulsa; Donna and husband Clayton Mitchell of Broken Arrow, and Oren Lee Adams of Purcell; four sisters, Hazel Ruth Trim of Hominy; Nellie Lenora O'Keif of Hominy; Juanita Darlene Dolan of White Marsh, VA; Ouida Lane Seaton of Cleveland; one brother, Harvey Ray Thompson of Spavinaw; six grandchildren, Jason Mitchell, Adam Mitchell, Marilyn Franklin, Jessica Adams, Josh Adams and Justine Adams, six great- grandchildren, Austin and Lexi Franklin, Wes and Jaci Mitchell and Kenny and Zoe Mitchell. Pallbearers were Jason Mitchell, Adam Mitchell, Josh Adams, Jeff Franklin, Bret Martin, Chad Martin, Jared Martin and David Antal. Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of the First Baptist Church as well as Gary Yarbrough and C. L. Stallard. Services were held Sat., Oct. 6, 2001 at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church in Hominy with Pastor Mark Wright officiating. Burial was at A. J. Powell Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc. of Cleveland.
