(SAM) CARLILE OCNS - December 3, 2002 - Harold E. "Sam" Carlile, 89, went to be with the Lord this December 2, 2002. He was born March 3, 1913 at HaHa Tonka, Missouri to Mary Sylvia (Cullen) and Alva Ura Carlile. On December 25, 1937 Sam and Mary Ann Sweeden were married in Barnsdall, Oklahoma by Elmer D. Schmidt, Justice of the Peace. From this union of love were born three surviving children, Mary Frances (Carlile) Downey and husband, Frank, of rural Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Harold Alva (Sammy) and wife, Minney, of rural Sperry, Oklahoma and Marjorie Ann (Carlile) Moore and husband, Gerald of rural Pawhuska. Frank and Mary have three children: Larry F. Downey and his children, Christopher, Shawn and wife, Christian and daughter, Freva Augustine; Jennifer Rene Downey; Brandon Scott Downey and wife, Michele, and daughter, Carly Bella; and Matthew Kyle Downey all of Oklahoma City and Norman. Harold Jr. and Minnie have four children: Sherri Lynn (Carlile) Barnes and her children, Anna Marie Barnes Carlile, husband Dennis and sons, Dennis and Floyd; Heather Diane and son, Dakota and Ashlee Nicole all of Bartlesville and Skiatook, Oklahoma; Sammy Eugene Carlile and wife, Deidra Ann and son, Samuel Brady of Skiatook; two stepsons, Hurbert Eric Priest and wife, Cindy and children, Amanda, Darren and Megan of Skiatook and Mark and Amie Priest of Tulsa. Gerald and Marjorie have two children, Russell Lee of the home and Reta LeAnn of Sand Springs, Oklahoma. Sam attended schools in Crescent and Pawhuska, Oklahoma, served in the United States Navy as Motor Machinist's Mate Second Class, completing Diesel Training at Gulfport, Mississippi and Cleveland, Ohio. He was in service at the Naval Training Station, San Diego, California USS LSM 288 and was honorably discharged on November 21, 1945, at which time he returned to his family in Pawhuska. Sam was a truck driver for Love Bottling Company in Bartlesville and Pawhuska and for Tri State Motor Transit in Joplin, Missouri. He retired from Phillips Petroleum Company in 1976 and moved back to Pawhuska. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Sam is survived by two sisters, Sylvia E. Trent of Pawhuska and Stella Marjorie Carriger of Del City, Oklahoma and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Ann, his father, Alva Ura, mother, Mary Sylvia, three brothers, Noah Merrit, Jessie Marvin and Carl Eugene; two sisters, Goldie McClure and Ruby Mitchell and a granddaughter, Samantha Jane Carlile. Johnson Funeral Home, Pawhuska, will conduct graveside services at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 4, in the Pawhuska City Cemetery with Reverend Frank Mundy officiating. Honorary casket bearers are: Hubert and Irma Sweeden, O.M. Duncan, Betty Sweeden, Jim and Beverly Sweeden, Jim and Martha Heflin and O.J. and Pat Sweeden.
