NOVELL OCNS - August 7, 2000 - Howard H. Novell, 80, a longtime resident of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, passed away August 4, 2000 in the Pawhuska Hospital following an extended illness. Howard was born October 17, 1919 in East Prairie, Missouri, the son of John Calvin and Sophia (Smith) Novell. He attended school and graduated from Webb City in 1939. As a young man he enjoyed singing and playing guitar over WBBZ Radio in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and retired from Pipefitters and Plumbers of Illinois after forty years of service. Howard was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge and the Pawhuska Elks Lodge. On May 6, 1989, Howard and Nora Mae Wood Pence were married in Miami, Oklahoma, and made their home in Pawhuska. Survivors in addition to his wife, Nora, of the home are: two brothers, O.C. and wife, Joan of LaMesa, California and Bob and wife, Rose of Heath, Ohio; one granddaughter, Laura of Utah; four nieces, one nephew and a host of friends. Howard was a friend to everyone he met. Services will be Tuesday, August 8, in The Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Pawhuska with interment in The Pawhuska Cemetery with Reverend Scott Hill of the Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Johnson Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
