She was 66 years old. Joann was born December 25, 1937, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, to Charlie Johnson and Vina Couch Carrington. She married Jacky Ray Vaden Sr. on May 16, 1955, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Jacky preceded her in death April 25, 1964. Joann waitressed at many Pawhuska restaurants in the 50's and 60's, The Pig Stand, Duncan Hotel, Old Pullman Café, Turf Café and The Manhattan. In later years, she worked at Sally's Sandwich Shop. She was employed at Phillips Petroleum Company as a secretary for 2 years and then transferred to the field and became a Class A maintenance mechanic. She also wrote and published The Late News Early. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Sally McArthur, and a granddaughter, Sherrie Vaden. She is survived by one son, Jacky Ray Vaden II and wife, Marilyan, of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, and two daughters, Chantel Parker and husband, Joe, of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, and Laura Knutson of Mankato, Minnesota. She is survived by nine grandchildren: Jacky Ray Vaden III, Melissa Vaden, Tandra Preece, Brandon, Jesse Joe, Dakota Parker, Tina Reed and husband, Jack, all of Pawhuska, and Kyle and Nathan Knutson of Mankato, Minnesota, and one great granddaughter, Emily Reed, also of Pawhuska, Oklahoma. She is survived by five sisters and one brother: Charlotte Milleson and husband, Wilfred, of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Letty Bradley of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Jean Gauger and husband, Lou, of Pharr, Texas, Diana Good and husband, Lucky, of Grove, Oklahoma, Goldie Hart of Betty Ann Nursing Home of Grove, Oklahoma and Richard Carrington and wife, Theresa, of Anson, Texas; one stepbrother, Curtis "Sarge" Carrington of Coweta, Oklahoma, and one stepsister, Elaine Braham of Terlton, Oklahoma; one aunt, Lavern Robertson of Claremore, Oklahoma, and numerous relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed by all. Memorial services were held March 27, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church. Reverend Junior Hill officiated. She was a member of The Chautauqua County Historical Society
