King Funeral services for James D. King, 81, Pryor, were held on Fri. August 8, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Stephens Memorial Chapel. Rev. Glenn Lewis officiated and burial followed at Graham Memorial Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stephens Memorial Chapel. James had been a long time resident of Pryor. He passed away on Sun. July 28, 2002 at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Claremore. James was born in Wynona on May 10, 1921 to James Francis and Lou Edna Gallamore King. He graduated from Wynona High School in 1939. He joined the Oklahoma National Guard in March of 1938 and served with the local unit in Pawhuska; he was taken into the United States Army in July 1940. He served with pride until he was honorably discharged in August 1945. He served in the European Theater during World War II with the 45th Thunderbird Division, Battery "A", 171st Field Artillery Battalion. He attained the rank of Corporal and earned 1 Silver Star and 1 Bronze Star. James was married to Anna Corinne Osburn on December 24, 1940 in Pawhuska. They made their home in Pryor in 1947 and were well known to many locally. His wife of almost 47 years preceded him in death on November 19, 1997. James went to work for the Meadow Gold Dairy, owned by Beatrice Foods Company, in Pryor, in 1947. He worked in the Dairy for three years and then began work as a Wholesale Route Man, delivering Dairy Products to local businesses for the next 14 years. In 1964, he went to work in the Beatrice Foods Plant in Tulsa and worked there for the next 22 years until his retirement in 1986. James is survived by one son and wife Charles D. and Bernadine King of Pryor; one granddaughter and husband Lisa Renea and David Jordan of Knob Noster, Mo.; one grandson and wife Michael B. and Jenni King of Batesville, Ark.; two great-granddaughters, Marisa Renea Jordan and Bethany Elaine Jordan both of Knob Noster, Mo.; and a host of friends and relatives.
