He was born September 18, 1903, in Summerset, Kentucky, the son of James Mitchell and Laura Belle (Warren) Wesley and married the former Edith Cogburn on December 24, 1928 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. They were married for sixty-seven years at the time of her death, February 4, 1995. A longtime Pawhuska, Oklahoma, resident, James was retired from The Texaco Company. Survivors are two sons and daughters-in-law: Charles and Donna Wesley of Tomball, Texas and Johnny and Mattie Wesley of Shawnee, Oklahoma; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and David Ussery of Gore, Oklahoma and Sue and Lloyd Chaney of Webb City, Oklahoma; a sister, Vinnie Lee Carner of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and a brother, James Mitchell Wesley, Jr. of Beggs, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Walter Clay Wesley and a sister, LuVena Howard. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 1, 2000 in the First Church of the Nazarene in Pawhuska, Oklahoma with the Reverend J. Dale Wesley officiating. Interment will follow in the Pawhuska City Cemetery. Johnson Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
