Visitation: August 21, 2002 Service: August 23, 2002 Cemetery: Osage Cemetery James Frank Lawrence, a of Sand Springs was born February 1, 1921 in Tomahawk, Arkansas to James Wilson and Nettie Ann (Faulk) Lawrence. James moved with his family to the Osage, Oklahoma in a covered wagon as a young child. He was raised and received his education in Osage. At a young age James began to work helping the family make ends meet. James entered the United States Army on November 16, 1942. James fought in the Tunisian Napels-Foggia Campaign and also served his country in Rome as well as in North Apennines with the Cannon Company in the 135th Infantry. During his time he received a EAME Theater Ribbon, One Silver Star, a World War II Victory Ribbon and a Good Conduct Medal. James was honorably discharged on November 21, 1945 from Camp Chafee, Arkansas. Upon his return to the United States James was married to Billie Earlene. James started delivering ice in Osage, Oklahoma for a short time. He then gained employment on the pipeline operating heavy equipment until 1964. In 1965 James he moved to Sand Springs when he started to work for the City of Sand Springs in the Water Department. James retired from the Water Department as the Foreman in 1986. After his retirement James remained in Sand Springs and then lately had moved to the retirement center in Sand Springs at the Kirkwood Senior Living. James loved horse racing, fishing, hunting, dominoes and card playing. He also loved watching his children and grandchildren grow up which he adored and loved greatly. James passed away Tuesday August 20, 2002 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 81 years 6 months and 19 days He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Billie, three sisters, Ethel, Willa Dean and Margaret, a son James E. Lawrence as well as a grandson Mark E. Clayton. Survived by his son, Jerry Lawrence of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; daughter, Susan Muth of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, Services will be held Friday August 23, 2002 at 10:30 am at Osage Cemetery officiated by Dr. Larry Wilson. Burial will be at Osage Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc. of Cleveland, Oklahoma.
