The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ JOHN "CHIEF" HOLLOWAY, Jr OCNS - April 26, 2001 - John "Chief" Holloway, Jr., 69, longtime resident of Fairfax, Oklahoma, died early Monday morning, April 23, 2001 in the Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Oklahoma. Chief was born April 15, 1932 in Fairfax, the son of John and Agnes (King) Holloway, Sr., and was raised and attended schools in Fairfax. Chief enlisted in the United States Army on November 18, 1952, serving during the Korean Conflict. He received the National Defense Service Medal with Battery A 83rd AAA Battalion before being honorably discharged January 25, 1955 at Camp Hanford, Washington. June 1, 1954 in Yacoma, Washington, Chief married Viola Lizotte, who survives at the home. He was a laborer in the pipeline fields, a bulldozer operator, a member of the First Osage Baptist Church and the Wolfhunters Association. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Survivors in addition to his wife of forty-six years include two sons, Howard D. Holloway of Fairfax and John Holloway, III, of Ralston, Oklahoma; three daughters, Bessie Holloway and Mary Stone both of Fairfax, and Lisa Bennett of Altus; one stepdaughter, Donna Karson of Snohomish, Washington; two half-brothers, Wayne Holloway of Jennings, Oklahoma, and George King of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one half-sister, Helen Caughlin of Blackburn, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Chief was preceded in death by his father, mother, a sister, stepmother and a nephew. Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 26, in the First Osage Baptist Church with the Reverend George Weston, Pastor of First Christian Church of Fairfax officiating with Mr. Tom Cox assisting. Burial, with full military honors performed by the Ponca Indian L. S. Buffalo Post #38 of White Eagle, Oklahoma, preceded burial in the Grayhorse Tribal Cemetery. Casketbearers were J.D. Mixon, Bob Rice, Frosty Goad, Sonny Renfro, Raymond Renfro and Jerry Evatt. Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home of Fairfax was in charge of arrangments.
