White Sr. Jerald Raymond White Sr., went to be with the Lord on Sat., Jan. 12, 2002. He was 86 years old. Jerald was an active member of First Baptist Church having served as Chairman of Deacons, the Stewardship Committee, the Child Development Committee, Sunday School teacher, and a member of the church orchestra. Mr. White attended Sherwood Music College, Chicago and received degrees from Shenandoah University and the University of Virginia. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Shenandoah University in 1989. He spent 36 years in education as band director, assistant principal and principal of Jefferson Senior High School, Roanoke and retired as Assistant Superintendent for Culpeper County Schools. Jerald served in the U.S. Army Special Services during World War II. He was a member of the Roanoke Kiwanis Club and a member and officer of the Culpeper Rotary Club. He was a member and served as president of Roanoke City, District P, and Virginia Retired Teachers Association. He also served as AARP State Coordinator for retired teachers for 4 years. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Una Vass White; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Jerald R. White, Jr. and his wife, Gerald Hall White of Denham Springs, La.; granddaughter, Laura White Smith and her husband, Randy of Jackson, Ms., grandson, Jeff White and his wife, Molly of Denham Springs; five great-grandchildren, Benjamin Ratliff, Nathanael Smith, Jeffrey, Audrey and Lauren White; two brothers, Lloyd White and his wife, Connie of Hominy; Duwayne White of Sherman, Tx.; and several nieces and nephews. The family expresses deep gratitude to the Doctors and other healthcare personal who so diligently served with compassion. The family is also deeply grateful for the ministry of the First Baptist Church Pastoral staff and church family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Orchestra or the Charles and Pat Fuller Mission Scholarship Fund, First Baptist Church, 515 Third Street, Roanoke, VA. 24011.
