His family was by his side as he started a new journey. The funeral services were held May 9, 2001 at McGilley Antioch Chapel in Missouri. Jerry lived his life to the fullest from a very young age. He was born June 21, 1948 in Hominy. He began as a young jockey; then traveled the rodeo circuit. He rode broncs and bulls and won many trophies and prizes as he traveled the country. Jerry began leatherwork as a hobby, being very artisitic he became very good at this craft. His craftsmanship will be missed by his friends and family. Jerry had no children. He was preceded in death by his father Donald Ray (Bill) Smith and one great-nephew Trenton Barker. He leaves behind his mother Uple Louis Thomas, one sister Shirita Kleisman, two nephews Donald Ray Barker and Scott Barker, one niece Shelly Barker, four Great-nieces and nephews Amber, Samantha, Lucas and Darian. He was really the only cowboy we ever knew. "You've always been our hero." Jerry's remains were intered next to his father at the A. J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy on May 23, 2001.
