The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ LAWRENCE EDWARD CUNNINGHAM OCNS - April 19, 2002 - Former resident of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Lawrence Edward Cunningham, 38, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2002, from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Lawrence was born December 9, 1963, in Pawnee, Oklahoma, the son of Alvin L. "Jack" and Rose Ann (Boone) Cunningham. He attended schools in Pawhuska, graduating with the Pawhuska High School class of 1982. During his time at Pawhuska High School, Lawrence excelled in football and wrestling. He was the recipient of the Ormand Beach Award in 1982 and was named the Outstanding Male Athlete that same year. He attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, where he received his degree in Psychology, and later received a degree in Social Services. On February 27, 1987, he married Karlene Selestewa in Lawrence, Kansas. Lawrence had served on the Pawhuska War Dance Committee for several years and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Survivors in addition to his wife, Karlene of the home in Albuquerque are: his son, Vernon Selestewa of Albuquerque; twin daughters, Britton Inez Cunningham and Lawren Elizabeth Cunningham, both of Muskogee, Oklahoma; three brothers, Eugene Cunningham and Darrell Cunningham, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Milton Cunningham of Pawhuska; three sisters, Jackie McCann of Glenpool, Oklahoma, Danna Blankinship of Tulsa and Asa Cunningham of Hominy, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Lawrence will lie in state at the Wakon Iron Community Center in Indian Camp, Pawhuska, until service time. Rosary will be said Sunday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. Traditional Indian Services will be Monday, April 22, at 9:00 a.m., at Wakon Iron Community Center with Funeral Mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Pawhuska with Father Leonard Higgins officiating. Interment will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home, Pawhuska, is in charge of arrangements.
