STUBBS OCNS - April 18, 2000 - Funeral services for Lenard Ray Stubbs, 77, were held Wednesday, April 19, at the First Nazarene Church in Henryetta, Oklahoma, with burial in the Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Hayhurst Funeral Home of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Mr. Stubbs was born May 3, 1922 at Stuart, Oklahoma the son of Hugh Ernest and Ella Lucille (Irvin) Stubbs and died April 15, 2000 in St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Lenard was a lifelong resident of Henryetta where he attended school before joining the United States Air Force in 1941, serving until 1947. January 27, 1950 in Henryetta he was married to Miss Hellen Counterman who survives at the home. He worked for Pittsburgh Plate Glass for eighteen years and started a career in the insurance business in 1957, owning and operating the Lenard Stubbs Insurance Agency for forty-three years. Mr. Stubbs was very involved in the Henryetta community where he was a member of the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce and past member of the Henryetta School Board. He was always an integral part of the First Nazarene Church, teaching Sunday School, senior and youth ministries and served as past Church treasurer. He had a special place in his heart for Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma, serving as a member of the Board of Trustees for thirty-three years, on the Foundation Board and was past Chairman of the Finance Committee. He was an avid S.N.U. sports fan and was a member of the Benchwarmers. The family requests memorials be made to the Lenard R. Stubbs Scholarship Fund at Southern Nazarene University, 6729 Northwest 39th Expressway, Bethany, Oklahoma 73008. Survivors in addition to his wife, Helen are: a son, Johnny and his wife, Sharon Stubbs, a daughter, Claudine and husband Larry Henry, all of Bethany; a brother, W.R. "Dick" and wife Hazel Stubbs and a sister Mildred McCaslin all of Henryetta; grandchildren John and Lindsey Stubbs, Sarah Stubbs, Jenna Stubbs and Logan Henry. He was preceded in death by sisters, Ester Mae Stubbs and Edna Smith and brothers, Ernest Byron Stubbs and Everett Walter Stubbs. The Reverend Lowell Churchill, Dr. Ark Noel, Reverend Harold Rains, Reverend Johnny Harrison and Dr. Loren Gresham ministered Wednesday's services.
