HAYES OCNS - January 14, 2002 - Pawhuska, Oklahoma, resident Leon W. Hayes, 68, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, January 12, 2002. Leon was born April 26, 1933, in Micawber, Oklahoma, the son of Leo and Lelauh (Curry) Hayes, and on January 7, 1977, he married Martha Irby Hawkins in Pawhuska. Leon was retired from Reda Pump, where he worked as an international field service engineer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. In his retirement, Leon worked as a pumper for various oil companies around Osage County (Oklahoma). He enjoyed ranching and was a fishing and hunting enthusiast as well as an avid Pawhuska Huskies sports fan. Survivors include: his wife, Martha Hayes of Pawhuska; his mother, Lelauh Hayes of Bristow, Oklahoma; three sons, Glenn Ray Hayes and wife, Debbie of Depew, Oklahoma; Brad Hayes and wife, Wendy, of Clyde Park, Montana, and Paul Hayes of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one daughter, Beverly Moore and husband, Terry, of Pawhuska; one step-daughter, Debbie Salerno and husband, Steve, of Westerville, Ohio; a sister, Shirley Mills and husband, Michael of Tulsa; a brother, Melvin "Dennie" Hayes and wife, Donna, of Kermit, Texas; ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous other family and friends. Leon was preceded in death by his father, Leo Hayes, and a brother, Marvin Russell Hayes. Services will be Thursday, January 17, at 10:00 a.m., in the First Baptist Church of Pawhuska with Dr. Larry Wallace officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m., in the Welty Cemetery, Welty, Oklahoma. Johnson Funeral Home, Pawhuska, is in charge of arrangements.
