The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ LAIRD DANIEL HELMER OCNS-January 18, 2000 - Laird Daniel Helmer, 59, of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, passed away unexpectedly January 3, 2000 in The St. John's Medical Center, Tulsa. He was born October 10, 1940 in Marion, Kansas, the son of Dan and Frances (Kelsey) Helmer and married Carolyn Wagner January 7, 1962 in Rush Center, Kanasas. The couple moved to Pawhuska, Oklahoma the day after their marriage. Laird began working on an oil field drilling rig at the age of seventeen and was Vice President of Green Country Supply, an oil field pipe and supply store in Pawhuska, at the time of his death. He was an active membre of The First Christian Church were he served as a Deacon, Chairman of The Finance Committe and an officer in The Christian Men's Fellowship. For several years, Richard Gibson and Laird sponsored The September Fish Fry at the church. Laird was the first treasurer of The Elk's Lodge in Pawhuska where he was a Charter Member and enjoyed fishing in his spare time. Survivors in addition to his wife, Carolyn of the home, are two daughters and sons-in-law, Shari and James Coldren of Foraker, Oklahoma and Shannon and Chuck Lawrence of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; a son, Shawn Helmer of Oklahoma City; his parents, Dan and Frances Helmer of Marion, Kansas; a sister, brother-in-law and nephew, Kay Raymond and Kevin Stice of Tulsa, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Amy and J.D. Coldren and Tiffany, Brandon and Trent Lawrence; and numerous other relatives and friends. Laird was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelly Helmer, grandparents Helmer and grandparents Kelsey. Burial was January 6, in The Pawhuska Cemetery with Memorial Services at the First Christian Church. The Reverend Ronald Eldridge officiated with music by Mary and Michael McCartney accompanied by Susan Rucker as organist. Casket bearers were Richrd Gibson, Gary Weyl, Jerry Loftis, Jerry Kern, Larry Wisehart and Tom Steele. Johnson Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.
