The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ LORENE RUTH (BLACKSTOCK) DIEHL OCNS - February 6, 2001 - Lorene Ruth (Blackstock) Diehl, 89, died in the Jane Phillips Memorial Center - Geriatrics Center Saturday, February 3, 2001 at 10:00 p.m. The Rosary will be celebrated Wednesday, February 7, at 7:30 p.m., in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, 219 East 6th Street, Pawhuska, Oklahoma. The Mass of the Resurrection will be at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Shidler, Oklahoma, on Thursday, February 8, at 11:00 a.m., with Father Leonard Higgins as celebrant. Dedication of the grave and committal prayers will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa at 3:00 p.m., Thursday. A native of Oklahoma, Mrs. Diehl was born in El Reno, Oklahoma August 4, 1911 to Herbert Austin Blackstock and Ethel Mae (Gwin) Blackstock. Her family moved to Drumright, Oklahoma, and later to Leslie, Arkansas, after World War I, where they were in the farming business. The family returned to Oklahoma in 1922 when Mr. Blackstock went to work for Phillips Petroleum Company until 1937 when he died. The move from Arkansas to Oklahoma was made in a covered wagon in February in the dead of winter by her parents with four small children. It took twenty-one days for this trip. Mrs. Diehl graduated from the Webb City, Oklahoma High School in 1931 and attended Draughn's Business College in Tulsa and after graduating from Draughn's she went to work for the Guild, Dozier and Jones Medical Clinic in Shidler, Oklahoma. Lorene and Lawrence J. Diehl were married October 28, 1934 and were married over fifty-four years at the time of his death, September 3, 1988. She owned and operated the Cut-Rate Drug Store in Shidler as well as an antique shop. Mr. Diehl owned and operated the Cut-Rate Grocery Store in Shidler until they sold their businesses and went into the ranching business in Osage County. Mr. & Mrs. Diehl later bought a ranch in Iowa and operated both ranches until Mr. Diehl's death in 1988 at which time Lorene continued in the ranching business until March, 1999, when she fell and became disabled. From that time, she has spent most of their time in and out of the hospital and rest homes in Bartlesville. Survivors include one brother, Woody Blackstock of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Diehl was preceded in death by two brothers, LeRoy Blackstock and Herbert Blackstock.
