He entered into eternal rest at 9:10 a.m. Feb. 5, 2002 at Ozarks Medical Center, West Plains. He was 85 years of age. In August of 1949, Mr. Ledbetter was married at Salem, ARK to Doris Mae Sumner who preceded him in death on April 13, 1991. On June 5, 1999, he was married at West Plains, Missouri to Laura Elizabeth "Beth" Hart. Mr. Ledbetter was a veteran having served with United States Army in Europe during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Laura E. "Beth" Ledbetter, of the family home; four children, Gayla Auffert and husband, Joe, West Plains, MI, Jimmy D. Ledbetter and wife, Dorothy, Pottersville, MI, Donald Ray McGoldrick and wife, Janet Caulfield, MI and Peggy Evans and husband, LaRoy, Caulfield, MI; four step children, Janet Bathaion and husband, Lance, McHenry, IL, Mary Espejo, West Plains, MI, Barbara Cruz and husband, Jose, Wonderlake, IL, and James Provow and wife, Myla, Pomona, MI; thirteen grandchildren; eleven step grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Hallie Spencer, Tulsa, Helen Allen and husband, Clark, Wichita, KS, an Gracie Miller, Cassville, MI; one sister-in-law Louise Ledbetter, Hominy; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Ledbetter was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter, Patsy Brower, four grandsons, three granddaughters, one great-granddaughter, one brother, Arthur Ledbetter and two sisters, Ethel Fox and Alta Smith. He was a member of the Church of Christ and attended the Curry Street Church of Christ, West Plains. Funeral services for Luther James Ledbetter, was held at 10 a.m. Fri. Feb. 8, 2002, in the Rose Chapel of the Robertson Drago Funeral Home of West Plains, with Evangelist Cliff Stewart officiating. Honorary Pallbearers were Odtis Wright, Jesse Fred Atkinson, Gerald Griffin, Travis Patillo, Chet Collins, Dr. S. E. Gardner, Everett Auffert, Jimmie Cook, Neale Phipps. Pallbearers were Harvelle Helm, Mearl Harris, Pete Hensley, Gene Ledbetter, Joe Auffert, LaRoy Evans. Internment was held in Oak Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
