Madge L. Battenfield

Madge L. Battenfield, 84, of Medford, died Friday at Medford Rehabilitation 
and Health Care Center.  At her request there will be no service.

Mrs. Battenfield was born January 27, 1917 to Sam and Ella Leming in 
Gunnison, Co.  She moved to Hominy with her family in 1920, and graduated 
from Hominy High School in 1936.

During World War II she worked in San Diego as a riveter.  She married 
Jack Bryan (Tex) Battenfield in 1946.  They traveled through all the 
states west of the Mississippi working on many projects including the 
roadway through the Kiabab Forest in Arizona, the "Going to the Sun 
Highway" through Glacier National Park, Boulder Dam, Glen Canyon Dam, and 
many sections of the original Hwy 66.

Mrs. Battenfield remained in Walla Walla, Wa. after the death of her 
husband in 1965.  She returned to Hominy in 1970 to care for her mother, 
after the death of her father.

Mrs. Battenfield was a member of the United Methodist Church, and the 
Rebekah Lodge in Hominy; as well as a member of the Choktaw Nation.

Mrs. Battenfield was an avid reader, liked to garden, play scrabble and 
enjoyed bingo.  She is survived by her son, Alan Battenfield and daughter-
in-law, Sharon, or Trail; two grandchildren, Laura Lodi of Soap Lake, and 
Layne Battenfield of Medford; and one great-grandchild Alayna Lodi.
