He was the son of Solomon and Lydia Mishler. Charles was raised in Jennings and attended school in Hallet. Upon completion of his schooling, Charles began a career in the oil business, working in the oilfields of Northeastern Oklahoma as a roustabout and roughneck. He was married to Ethel Sarah Jane Calloway on May 25, 1931 in Blackburn. The couple has one son, C. LaDell. Charles operated a grocery store from 1943 through 1946 in Buckeye, NM. The couple then moved to Illinois for a couple of years where Charles operated a filling station. The couple also operated a soft cream, Dairy Rich business in Tarpon Springs, FL for a few years. They returned to Pauls Valley where Charles returned to the oil business, working for Gulf Oil Company and Magnolia Oil Company. In 1974, Charles and Ethel moved to Cleveland and continued to reside there until Ethel passed away on Sept. 22, 1998 after sixty-seven years of marriage. Charles was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Cleveland. Shortly after the death of his wife, Charles moved to the Cleveland Baptist Village and then for health reasons moved to Fairfax Manor in Fairfax. He passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2002 at the Fairfax Memorial Hospital at the age of ninety-five years, five months and four days. In addition to his wife, Ethel, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Solomon, Joseph and Lee; and two sisters, Bessie and Cordia. Charles is survived by his son, C. LaDell "Mitch" Mishler and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wed. March 27, 2002 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Abbott officiating. Burial was held at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
