All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== The Hominy News Progress Vol. 38, No. 42 Wednesday, October 16, 2002 Page 5 Mary Frances Nichols Mary Frances Nichols was born on Nov. 5, 1917 in Locust Grove to Richard and Pearl Blackwell Henton. She passed away on Oct. 9, 2002 in Stillwater. She was 84 years old. Mary is survived by her three daughters Elizabeth Nichols of Stillwater, Janet Bode of Germantown, MD, Lois Sharpnack of Hominy, one son Virgil Lee Nichols of Stillwater, a sister Elizabeth Murphy of Sapulpa, eight grandchildren Ky Nichols, Susan Drumright, Erin Devlin, Laura Dysart, LaJonna McDonald, Kimberly Edwards, James and Scott Sharpnack, ten great- grandchildren Ben, Abby and Luke Drumright, Rachel and Faith Nichols, Simon and Isaac Devlin, Chet and Dent Dysart, and Logan Sharpnack. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers Joe and Walter Henton, two sisters Martha Lunsford and Elma Dean Lowery. Mary was educated at Mound Valley High School. She was a longtime resident of Hominy. She married Virgil Scott "Mutt" Nichols of Hominy on Feb. 17, 1937. Mutt preceded her in death in 1988. A member of the First Baptist Church in Hominy, she enjoyed being active in her church. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Union, she delivered ministry to people with cassette tapes, and she was Secretary/Treasurer of her Sunday school classes and department. Mary was a great woman of her time, being a member of the state basketball championship team when she was a senior in 1936. She was also one of the many great women who took care of the family and home while her husband was fighting for his country during World War II. Mary enjoyed going to the Senior Citizen Center, working outside, mowing her ard, and crocheting. She also enjoyed bowling especially when her grandkids came to visit; she loved taking them bowling. She was an OSU Cowboys fan and a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. She really liked to go out to eat; one of her favorite things was to go to Eskimo Joe's and eat their onion rings. Mary devoted her life to her husband and children. She loved her family dearly. Services for Mary were held 2 p.m. Fri. Oct. 11 at the First Baptist Church in Hominy. George Boston officiated the services. Vocalist was John Crawford, accompanist was Martha Arlan. Vigil Nichols, Ky Nichols, Matt Devlin, Jim Sharpnack, Scott Sharpnack, and Carey Dysart were the Pallbearers. Interment following at A. J. Powell Memorial Cemetery.
