Noble Dr. Robert L. Noble was born near Hominy on July 16, 1923 to J. W. "Choc" and Ona May (Smith) Noble. He entered into rest on November 20, 2002 in Stillwater at the age of 79. Robert attended and graduated from Hominy High School in 1940. Noble served in the U.S. Army during WWII, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, landing in Cherbourg, France, and fighting his way across France and Germany. Wounded, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Upon his honorable discharge, he was married to Jane Ann martin December 12, 1947, and obtained his B.S. in 1948 from Oklahoma A&M in animal science. As an undergraduate, he was on the 1947 Livestock Judging Team and was President of Block and Bridle. He went to work for Wilson Packing Co. in Kansas City, Kansas and remained there for one and one-half years before returning to Oklahoma A&M where he was a member of the animal science faculty. Dr. Noble received his Ph.D. from Kansas State in 1959. While at Oklahoma State University, Dr. Noble held research extension, and teaching appointments and had primary responsibility for developing and teaching Introduction to Animal Science, and through this course had a significant influence on tens of thousands of students. The magnitude of this influence is indicated by the fact that he washonoered with outstanding teacher awards five times and in 1970, he received the Tyler Award as animal science professor of distinction. He also served with distinction as Extension Sheep Specialist and as the faculty member in charge of the purebred sheep flocks. In addition, he was the Sheep Superintendent at the State Fair of Oklahoma and the Tulsa State Fair for many years. Upon his retirement from Oklahoma State University, friends, colleagues, and alumni established an endowment to support and recognize outstanding academic excellence in the freshman class. Dr. Noble's awards and tributes are many and include not only agriculturally- related recognition, but also those reflecting this commitment to community involvement. He was an active member of the Stillwater Noon Lions Club for more than 40 years and received the Melvin Jones Award for community service, the highest honor given by Lions International. Also, he was the first Lion member to receive a lifetime membership. His parents and two brothers, James C. Noble and William S. Noble preceded him in death. Survivors include: wife, Jane Ann martin, of the home; two sons William Robert Noble and wife, Kathy, of Elk City and Scott Martin Noble and wife, Kristi, of Rogers, Ark; two daughters Jana J. Fulton and husband, William, of Crete, NE, and Robin N. Hart and husband, Mike, of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren Robert, JaJa and Emily Noble, Brent and Blaine Fulton, Morgan and Lindsey Hart; and brother Jess Noble; along with many other friends. Services for Dr. Robert Noble were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater, on Sat. November 23, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Dr. B. Gordon Edwards officiated. Interment was held at A. J. Powell Cemetery. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of services. Committal Services were held on Fri. November 22, 2002 at 3:30 p.m. at A. J. Powell Cemetery. Pallbearers include: Vernon Stillwell, Bill McCabe, Thomas Everett Gore, Jim Shelley, Lloyd White, R. D. Black, Lowell Walters and members of the Stillwater Noon Lions Club.
