HAYS OCNS - April 11, 2001 - Morgan L. Hays, 85, retired long-time City Manager for the City of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, April 9, 2001, at his home in Pawhuska. Morgan was born October 1, 1915 in Wagoner, Oklahoma, the son of W. Pierce and Sally (Shannon) Hays and on December 28, 1941 married Virginia Dungan in Claremore, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on April 18, 1964. In September of 1965, Morgan married Elizabeth "Betty" (Tillotson) Knudson in Pawhuska. He was a member of the St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Pawhuska, the Masonic Lodge and the International Association of City Managers. During World War II, Morgan served for three and one half years in the United States Navy. Survivors are: his wife, Betty Hays of the home in Pawhuska; three daughters, Hallie Hays Iseman of Alexandria, Virginia; Peg Knudson Marshall of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Pam Knudson McCallum of Dallas, Texas; two granddaughters, Julie Gilliland O'Keefe of Arlington, Virginia, and Amy Woodman of Alexandria, Virginia; a great grandson, Morgan Pratt Pendleton O'Keefe of Arlington, Virginia; a brother, Steve Hays of Kennar, Louisiana, and a host of other family and friends. Morgan was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Hays Gilliland and an infant son, Morgan. Services were held Wednesday, April 11, in the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Pawhuska with Father Mike Jarvis officiating. Interment was in the Pawhuska City Cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
