NELLIE MAE (HURT) LEMLEY OCNS - April 25, 2000 - Mrs. Nellie Mae (Hurt) Lemley, 77, a Barnsdall, Oklahoma native and wife of Mr. Paul J. Lemley, died at 10:11 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2000 at the family residence in Barnsdall. Funeral services for Mrs. Lemley were held Tuesday in the sanctuary of the Barnsdall, First Baptist Church. Reverend James "Jim" Brunk, former pastor of the church, was the officiant. Committal prayers and interment were directed in the new section of the Ethel Reece Cemetery, Barnsdall, by The Arnold Moore?Barnsdall Funeral Service. Nellie Mae Hurt was born on October 16, 1922 at Big Heart (now Barnsdall), Oklahoma in Osage County. She was the daughter of the late Orval B. "Broady" and Mirtie Ellen (Harvey) Hurt. Nellie Mae was reared and educated in the Big Heart and Barnsdall communities and was graduated with the Senior Class of 1940 from the Barnsdall High School. She had attended the Oklahoma A & M College at Stillwater, Okla. for two years before becoming employed by the Boeing Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kansas as a secretary. She and Paul J. Lemley were married at Rochester, Minnesota on April 4, 1945, and after Mr. Lemley's honorable discharge from the military, they moved to Tonkawa, Oklahoma where Mr. Lemley was employed by the Shell Oil Company until 1950 when the family moved to Elk City, Oklahoma. Mrs. Lemley attended a beauty college in Elk City and became a licensed cosmetologist and was employed by a local beauty shop in Elk City. The Lemley family moved to Kalkaska, Michigan where Mrs. Lemley retired from the cosmetology business. The Lemley family moved to Midland, Texas with Mr. Lemley's employment until 1982 when they returned to the Barnsdall community to live in retirement. Mrs. Lemley was a member of the Barnsdall, First Baptist Church. Mrs. Lemley lay in state in The Arnold Moore?Barnsdall Funeral Home on Monday until she was removed to the church for final rites on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Lemley is survived by her husband, Paul J., of the Barnsdall home; a daughter, Mrs. Paula Jill St. Laurent, Stillwater, Oklahoma; a son, Larry Ned Lemley, Victoria, Canada; one brother, Joe Hurt, Barnsdall; four sisters, Mrs. Lyle (Vona) Anthony, Mrs. A. O. (Mildred) McKinney, both of Barnsdall, Mrs. Parthina "Pat" Taylor, Skiatook, Oklahoma and Mrs. Hortense Dixon, Vernal, Utah; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her father; mother; and three brothers, Kenneth, Clove and Jeri Hurt.
