CALLISON OCNS - April 20, 2002 - Norman Lewis "Curley" Callison, 76, longtime resident of the Barnsdall, Oklahoma area and a retired painter, died July 20, 1999, in the Jane Phillips Medical Center. A rosary was held July 22, 1999 in the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Barnsdall. The Mass of Resurrection was celebrated Friday, July 23, 1999, in the St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Leonard Higgins as celebrant. The Webster Schrack American Legion Post 227 accorded Mr. Callison full military rites at the graveside in the Ethel Reese Cemetery, Barnsdall. A native Oklahoman, Mr. Callison was born January 9, 1923, in Oklahoma City, the son of the late Norman Wilson and Grace Callison. He moved to Westville, Arkansas with his family prior to moving to Hutchinson, Kansas, where he completed his education. He returned to Oklahoma City and was enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 and was a member of the 782nd Army Tank Corp Battalion. He received his honorable discharge in 1946 and returned to Oklahoma City where he worked for the Watts Funeral Home of two years. May 1, 1948, in Barnsdall, he married Betty Jane Kriewitz and they made their first home there. He was employed as a painter and worked for Glen Foster, Loren Pomeroy and in Tulsa for the Sub-Con Corporation for four years. He was employed as foreman for Tom Kane in Bartlesville, Oklahoma for twelve years prior to his retirement on February 1, 1985. Mr. Callison was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Barnsdall; the Webster Schrack American Legion Post 227, of which he was recognized as a fifty-year member of the American Legion; the Barnsdall VFW (Veteran's of Foreign Wars) Post 4769 and the DAV (Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the Painter's Local Union 1895 in Tulsa. Survivors were his wife, Betty Jane Callison of the home in Barnsdall and one aunt, Ruby L. Hendrik of Willis, Texas. Arrangements were under the direction of the Arnold Moore-Barnsdall Funeral Service.
