The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PHILLIP TURNER REED OCNS - July 26, 2002 - Phillip Turner Reed, 83, passed away Friday, July 26, 2002, at his home in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, following an extended illness. Born May 15, 1919, in Fairfax, Oklahoma to Phil and Virginia Turner Reed, Phillip attended schools in Foraker, Oklahoma and Grainola, Oklahoma. He graduated from Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Missouri, where he met Dorothy M. Holm. They were married November 3, 1940 and ranched in the Foraker area. A third generation rancher, Phillip was a past President of the Osage County Cattlemen's Association, a lifetime member of the National and Oklahoma Cattlemen's Associations and a charter member of the National Cowboy Hall of Fame. In 1955, Phillip and his family moved to Pawhuska and he was actively involved with the First United Methodist Church where he taught various Sunday School classes. Mr. Reed supported various youth groups, helped out with 4-H, Oklahoma State University and all Pawhuska School events. He enjoyed visiting people in hospitals and nursing homes. Phillip was known for his enthusiastic siren and especially loved spending time with family and friends. Survivors include: Dorothy, his wife of sixty-one years; three sons and their wives, Jim and Loretta, Melvin and Diane and Ron and Debbie; his grandchildren, Tim, James and his wife, Melanie, Jason and his wife, Beth, Stacy, Katherine, Phillip Taylor and Spencer; and his great grandson, Hunter Reed. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 29, at the Pawhuska United Methodist Church with burial at the Pawhuska City Cemetery.
