All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== The Hominy News - Progress Vol. 33, No. 33 Wednesday, August 15, 2001 Page 5 Ethel Jean Pierce (Photo) Ethel Jean Pierce, lifelong Osage County resident, was born January 12, 1219 at 304 South Wood in Hominy, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Thomas F. and Dona Cally Gore. Jean was raised and attended school in Wynona, graduating from Wynona High School in 1936. Shortly after her graduation, Jean was married to Charles O'Dell Pierce on August 16, 1936. The couple initially made their home in Wynona where their first daughter, Donna was born. After Charles accepted employment with the Pioneer Store in Hominy the couple moved their family there. The couple then had their second daughter, Jann. When Charles established his own bulk oil purchasing company and began his tank and dump truck service, later named Pierce Trucking and Oil Company, Jean began a career as the company's bookkeeper. She continued in that capacity until she joyfully relinquished her responsibilities to her son-in-law, John in 1976. Jean and Charles loved to travel. They traveled extensively to the Holy Land, making six trips and made many other journeys throughout the world. Jean was an avid reader and especially enjoyed studying history. She also loved birds and working in her garden. Charles preceded her in death on September 12, 2000 after sixty-four years of marriage. Jean was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hominy. She had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in her younger years. Jean passed away on Tues., Aug. 7, 2001 at the Cleveland Area Hospital at the age of 82 years 6 months and 25 days. In addition to her husband, Jean was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Thelma Ellen Gore; and one brother, James Henry Gore. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Donna and Jack McDonald, Fairfax, VA; Jann and John Mullins, Hominy; seven grandchildren, Cindy Landers, Tulsa; Phil Landers, Tampa, Florida; Charles McDonald, Atlanta, GA; Chris McDonald, Berryville, VA; Jim Mullins, Hominy; Jil Graham, Tulsa; Julie Marshall, Tulsa; twelve great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, two brothers, Thomas E. Gore, Tulsa; Fred Gore, Easley, SC; and one sister, Velma Butler, Stillwater. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thurs., Aug. 9, 2001 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Toby Clemishire officiating. Burial was in the A. J.
