Henry was born and raised north of Hominy, in the Cosden Oil Field camp. He attended Mound Valley School all 12 years, graduating in 1940. He attended Oklahoma A & M College studying Mechanical Engineering and Drafting. During college he became a member of the ROTC. In 1941 he entered into the United States Air Force and attended flight school in San Antonio, TX. He later owned his own airplane. After he received his honorable discharge he returned to the Bartlesville Tulsa area where he was employed as a draftsman for 20 years. On Nov. 2, 1949 he married Lucille Barbee and they have made their home in Skiatook since 1968. In 1974 he opened his own business, Rural Steel Fabricators, and worked until his retirement at age 62. Mr. Pope was a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1987, member of the American Legion, he enjoyed golf, fishing and traveling. Survivors include his wife Lucille of the home; his mother Olive Pope; one brother and one sister Dick Pope of Hominy and Martha Belle Hendricks of Houston, Tx; three children, Janice Sue McCormick of Tulsa, Judy Rountree and husband John of Skiatook, and Ted and wife Karen Pope of Skiatook; six grandchildren, Kevin and Dustin McCormick, Justin and Jami Pope, and Angelin and Leslie Rountree and a host of other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death was his father, T. F. Pope. Services for Henry Theodore Pope, age 79, were held at 2:00 p.m. Thurs. Jan. 31, 2002 at the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kelly Chronister of the First Baptist Church officiating. Internment followed in the Osage Gardens Cemetery under the direction of the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Justin Pope, Kevin McCormick, Dustin McCormick, Gene Moss, Wayne Ingersoll and Ed Davis. Honorary Pallbearers were Gene Bowline, Gary Butler, Bo Carter, Dennie Harrison, Gaylen Bowline, Dan Thompson and Leonard Phillips.
