Prough Meredith J. Prough, 58, passed away on Thurs., May 10, 2001, and funeral services were held in Yale. She had worked in Pawnee for several years. She was born on April 15, 1943, in Ozark, Arkansas, to Theodore Brewer and Bertha Gossett Brewer and came to Yale as a small child. Meredith attended Yale schools and was a graduate of Yale High School. She married Larry Prough on July 33, 1961 in Yale and the couple had lived there since that time. At the time of her passing she was believed to have been the oldest employee in terms of years with the Oklahoma Historical Society. She began with the OHS 28 years ago working in the Jim Thorpe museum at Yale. She served as sites manager of the Drummond Home here in Hominy. Because she like to stay busy she asked for more to do and was sent furniture to repair, refinish, etc. and this was the beginning of sites service. She joined Martha Ray in establishing the OHS Sites Service Center near Pawnee in 1993 and they were given the responsibility of servicing all historical sites in the state. She was an employee of the Historical Society at the time of her passing. She was a member of the Christian Church of Cushing, the Xi Delta Pi as a member of 25 years, she was also a member of the Order of the Rose. She enjoyed cross stitching, sewing and painting. She is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, Larry Prough of the home in Yale, and two sons: Todd Prough and wife Jeanetta also of Yale and Thad Prough of Maramec, two grandchildren, Austin Prough and Benjamin Prough plus other relatives. Meredity was preceded in death by her parents and a son, John Tate Prough. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Mon., May 14, 2001, at the Yale High School gymnasium with Harold Prough, Ponca City, officiating.
