DAVIS OCNS-March 20, 2000-Ray A. Davis, 97, former Pawhuska resident and businessman passed away at his home in Hot Springs, Arkansas, March 17, 2000. An original Rolee of the Cherokee Indian Tribe, Ray was born March 6, 1903 in Nowata County, Oklahoma, the son of James and Emma (Stevans) Davis. He was an owner/trainer of Thoroughbred horses and raced a small stable at Oaklawn Park in Arkansas from 1947 until he retired in 1993 at the age of ninety. Surviving are his wife of fifty-nine years, Julia Davis of the home in Hot Springs; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Ray and Barbara Davis of Hot Springs, Arkansas; three sisters, Estar King of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, Goldie Johnson of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Marie Copenhaver of California; a brother, Jesse Davis of Tulsa; two granddaughters, Amanda and Jennifer of Hot Springs and many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Laura Duncan and Allie Roberts. Services will be Tuesday, March 21, 2000 at 10:00 a.m., in The Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Pawhuska with the Reverend Raymond Redcorn officiating. Burial will follow in the Pawhuska Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Directors.
