C. WOOD OCNS - July 6, 2001 - R.C. Wood, 71, longtime resident of Fairfax, Oklahoma, passed away June 29, at his home in Fairfax. R.C. was born March 7, 1930 at Pelsor, Arkansas, the son of William Richard Wood and Tennie Lou (Gunter) Wood and received his early education in the Pelsor area schools. He served in the United States Army from 1948 to 1953, serving a tour of duty in Germany. December 10, 1960, in Kansas, he married Norma Hawkins Nelson and the couple established their home in Fairfax where he was employed for many years with the Hunsaker Funeral Home. He was involved in all aspects of funeral service including ambulance, preparation and funeral directing. At the time of his death R.C. was a part-time employee with the Hunsaker- Wooten Funeral Home and had served some forty years in funeral service to the Fairfax community. He was a member of the First Osage Baptist Church, The American Legion and was a past member of the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department. R.C.'s enjoyments included fishing, hunting, all sproting events, playing dominos and visiting with others. Survivors include his wife, Norma of the home; one son, Donnie Wood, Russellville, Arkansas; three daughters, Carol Black and Ginger Sanders, both of Dover, Arkansas and Jana Cox of Fairfax; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren; four nieces and one nephew and other relatives and friends. R.C. was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Ricky Wood and Steven Nelson, one sister, Phyllis Adams and one brother, Bill Wood. Funeral services were held July 3, at the First Osage Baptist Church with Reverend Bob Glasgow presiding with burial in the Fairfax Cemetery under the direction of the Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home. Casket bearers were Wilbur Cave, Dean McConnell, Dr. James Graham, Dale Brewer, Henry Cook, Bill Ellis, Bud Trisdale and Tom Smith. Honorary casket bearers were Pete Bayird and Sam Anderson.
