All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ==================================================================== STEWART -- Alice Adeline (Maher), was born in Hominy, OK, on September 8, 1907 to Allie Gentner (Maher) and H.M. (Howard) Maher and passed away Thursday, September 21, 2006. She attended school in Hominy, until going to O.U. from 1925 thru 1929, when she earned her degree in Education. She joined Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and was a member for 81 years. Alice taught school at Sidney Lanier Elementary School in Tulsa during the winter school year and attended college in Greeley, CO, where she earned a Master's Degree in Education. She traveled to the United Kingdom, Germany, France and England in 1930, for a Christian Endeavors Tour. After returning, she met and married Lawrence Wilson Stewart. They made their home in Tulsa. Alice was a very kind and caring person and will be missed by many. She was recently an honored guest at a 60th class reunion of one of her 6th grade classes. She is survived by: a niece, Madeline Maher Shuppy; nephew-in-law, Larry Shuppy; and sister-in-law, Doris Bush Maher. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Lawrence W. Stewart; and her brother, Howard M. Maher. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the charities of choice. Funeral service 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 25, 2006 at First Presbyterian Church-Kerr Chapel. Moore Rosewood Chapel, 744-1202. Published in the Tulsa World on 9/24/2006.
