July 3, 2002, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pawhuska. Interment in Pawhuska Cemetery was under the direction of Powell Funeral Home. Sam passed away June 28, 2002 in Fairfax. He was born in Nelogoney on Nov. 29, 1918 to Sam D. and Mary Arnce Thornburg. Sam married Lucille Jones in December of 1940. He lived in Pawhuska for 75 years and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Elks Lodge. Sam is survived by his wife Lucille of the home, four sons; Bill Thornburg of Broken Arrow; Bob Thornburg of Pawhuska; Chris Thornburg of Broken Arrow; Joe Thornburg of Pawhuska; a daughter Jayne Minney of Pawhuska; ten grandchildren: Kelly Ramey, Samantha Miller, Leslie Potter, Jason Anderson, Stephen Thornburg, Adam Thornburg, Maxx Thornburg, Missy Potter, Robin Thornburg, Melanie McCarthey, thirteen great-grandchildren: Jesse Jackson, Derek Potter, Kaci Potter, Bill Strandgard, Megan, Miranda and Sami Anderson, Jamee Miller, William and Kristin Ramey, raven Potter, Jourdyn and Jana, four brothers: Cecil Thornburg of Pawhuska; Robert Thornburg of Tulsa; Herb thornburg of California; Billy ray Thornburg, two sisters: Ellamae Potter of Louisiana, and Mary Kathryn of Dodge City, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Marion Thornberg.
